Muslim liberals lash out at MSNBC after they cancel Mehdi Hasan’s show

MSNBC cancelled Mehdi Hasan’s show, and many liberal Muslims are accusing the company of racism on social media.

Hasan has a weekend program and show on the Peacock network, but sources say the progressive network is demoting him to on-camera analyst and fill-in host.

A source at MSNBC told the New York Post that he was partly fired because his views were out of the mainstream.

The development spurred some Muslim liberals to lash out at MSNBC and accuse it of racism against Muslims.

“MSNBC canceled Mehdi Hasan’s show. Because, of course, they did. It’s not just because he treats Muslims as real human beings, it’s also because he actually challenges his guests,”
tweeted YouTube commentator Cenk Uygur, who identifies as a cultural Muslim.

“And that is the biggest heresy in mainstream media. Access must be protected!” he added.

“The fact that
@MSNBC canceled Mehdi Hasan’s show while the absolutely horrible Andrea Mitchell is still employed there is proof that they are not listening to their audience,” said Muslim liberal activist Majid Padellan.

“While MSNBC still retains some journalists whose work I still trust and admire, this decision stinks of politics, and I’m disgusted by it. Sorry to see him go,” he added.

Other liberals also berated MSNBC for the decision.

“Look what’s happening: the few mainstream voices who challenge Israel’s mass slaughter of Gaza are under attack,” responded a gay YouTube commentator.

“Mehdi Hasan is the best, most adversarial journalist on any US cable news network, so naturally, MSNBC cancels his show,” replied activist Emma Vigeland.

Others on the right derided Hasan for appearing to be sympathetic to the terrorist cause of Hamas against Israel.

“MSNBC decided it had enough pro-Hamas television shows and didn’t need one from Mehdi Hassan,” responded radio host Erick Erickson.

In April, Hasan was accused of plagiarism over remarkably similar passages found in his writing that appeared to be lifted from other sources. He also faced criticism from the Council on American-Islamic Relations after he scolded Muslims who were opposed to explicit sexual imagery in public school books celebrating the LGBTQ agenda.
