AZ police tase 2 parents and arrest another for allegedly trying to get to their kids from grade school where armed intruder was reported

Police arrested one parent and tased two others after they allegedly tried to force their way into a grade school where an armed intruder had been reported.

The harrowing
incident unfolded at the El Mirage Elementary School in El Mirage, Arizona, on Friday.

Officers were called to the school at about 10:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a man who was possibly armed with a handgun and trying to get inside. When the school staff approached the man, he ran into a riverbed.

The school went into a lockdown and police searched the campus for the man.

A suspicious package was found during the search and it was destroyed.

Police said that some parents were
trying to force their way into the school to recover their children, and two were tased while another was arrested for carrying a handgun. One parent was hospitalized.

Video from an ABC News reporter showed people getting agitated and confrontational with police officers outside the school.

No gunman was found by the police.

“Today we received a call of a man with a gun at the school,” read a statement from the El Mirage police department. “PD responded and never found the person or could confirm a subject with a gun.”

The man was described as a dark-skinned man with a tattoo on his forehead and wearing a yellow shirt and black shorts. The lockdown was later lifted, and some police officers stayed on campus to investigate.

It is unclear what charges the parents might face, but a felony charge is possible for the gun possession.
