NewsBusters Podcast: Ohio Toxic Train Story Trailed Off Into Silence

News & Politics

A study by NewsBusters found that after an original burst of coverage, ABC, CBS and NBC stopped covering the derailment of a train carrying toxic chemicals near Youngstown, Ohio around February 8. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Norfolk Southern railroad declared it was safe,

There have been widespread reports of chickens and fish dying, new chemicals discovered, pets falling ill, and residents complaining of health complications. Tonight, NBC led with the story, which included video of Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) being asked about whether he would drink the local water.

NewsBusters media editor and senior research analyst Bill D’Agostino joins the show to discuss what he and Curtis Houck found in their review. On Wednesday morning, Curtis reported the networks picked up the story again for almost seven minutes.
