Insanely rich and famous Arnold Schwarzenegger says it’s ‘sad’ that ‘we have to die,’ reveals that ‘I know people feel comfortable with death, but I don’t’

News & Politics

Arnold Schwarzenegger opened up about life and death for Monday’s issue of Interview magazine as fellow actor Danny DeVito ran down a Q&A with him.

What did he say?

In short, Schwarzenegger — who has lived an extraordinary life as a famous bodybuilder, blockbuster movie actor, and governor of California, in addition to amassing a reported net worth of at least $400 million to date — knows his riches and fame and good times will go away one day.

DeVito brought up water supply issues around the world and asked his former “Twins” co-star, “What’s in the future for us? What do you think, in terms of our species? Are we going to last? Tell me, oh great leader,” Interview said.

Schwarzenegger laughed and replied, “It reminds me of [shock radio host] Howard Stern’s question to me. ‘Tell me, governor, what happens to us when we die?’ I said, ‘Nothing. You’re six feet under. Anyone that tells you something else is a f***ing liar,'” the magazine said.

DeVito shot back that Schwarzenegger doesn’t actually know what happens, and Schwarzenegger added that he also told Stern that “we don’t know what happens with the soul and all this spiritual stuff that I’m not an expert in, but I know that the body as we see each other now, we will never see each other again like that,” Interview noted.

“We deteriorate,” DeVito added, according to the magazine.

Schwarzenegger continued, “Except in some fantasy. When people talk about, ‘I will see them again in Heaven,’ it sounds so good, but the reality is that we won’t see each other again after we’re gone. That’s the sad part. I know people feel comfortable with death, but I don’t … because I will f***ing miss the s**t out of everything. To sit with you here, that will one day be gone? … And to have fun and to go to the gym and to pump up, to ride my bike on the beach, to travel around, to see interesting things all over the world. What the f***?” Interview noted.

DeVito interjected, “Life! It’s the best!” the magazine said, after which Schwarzenegger agreed, saying, “Exactly,” and then asking, “Who can we blame?”

More from Interview:

DEVITO: You mean that we don’t live forever?
SCHWARZENEGGER: Yeah. That we have to die.
DEVITO: That’s tough, man.
SCHWARZENEGGER: I don’t know what the deal is, but in any case, it’s a reality, and it truly pisses me off.
DEVITO: You don’t want to die.
SCHWARZENEGGER: No. What the f***? What kind of deal is that?

Anything else?

Despite Arnold’s apparent lack of faith in God, he does have a very close family member who is a Christian and may rub off on him: actor Chris Pratt, who’s married to Arnold’s daughter, Katherine Schwarzenegger.

Pratt, as readers of TheBlaze know well, is a devout Christian and has received quite a bit of grief for his beliefs. What’s more, Pratt met his wife in church, so who knows? They both could have some spiritual influence on the elder Schwarzenegger.
