Pennsylvania woman charged with aiding suicide over numerous ‘heinous’ messages she sent to ex-boyfriend for a year

A Pennsylvania woman has been charged with aiding a suicide after she allegedly sent numerous texts to an ex-boyfriend deriding him and encouraging him to kill himself.

Police were called to the apartment of Kevin Metzger, an ex-boyfriend of 35-year-old Mandie Reusch, on June 18, 2021, and discovered that the man had already taken his life.

They found a letter from Reusch in the apartment and after a two-year investigation they charged her based on a number of “heinous” messages she had sent to Metzger.

The Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office described the messages posted to his Facebook account as “a trail of torment and solicitation.”

Charging documents said that Reusch began sending Metzger the messages in June 2020 and allegedly told him to kill himself several times. She also threatened that he would never see their daughter again, according to police.

“This is the next level or most extreme amount of bullying I’ve seen, read about, heard about, where somebody is constantly telling someone to end their life,” said State Police Trooper Steve Limani to reporters.

Police say some of the messages included explicit images, videos and themes.

“You’re talking about the three of the biggest triggers you can have when making someone feel awful,” Limani added.

In one instance, she allegedly sent him video of herself having sex with another man after he sent her money that he owed her.

District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli argued that Metzger might still be alive had Reusch not sent the messages to “influence and encourage him to take his own life.”

Reusch’s attorney, Phil DiLucente, issued a warning about the charges.

“My God, if we’re going to start prosecuting people for sending harsh texts to one another versus it being verbally communicated, then we are on a different path on our legal system,” DiLucente said.

“We just have very emotional words conveyed to one another,” he added.

Reusch is also charged with harassment and was booked into the Westmoreland County Jail. She has a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 27.
