Authorities have arrested a man suspected in the assault of former U.S. Sen. Martha McSally.

In a video, McSally recounted that while she was running on Wednesday a man approached her from behind, engulging her “in a bear hug, and he molested and fondled me until I fought him off.”

“I ran after him, I threw my water bottle at him, and I chased him into the brush, where he was then hiding as I called 911 and waited for the police to come. I don’t think they found him,” she recalled in the video.

A press release from the Council Bluffs Police Department noted that 25-year-old Dominic M. Henton had been identified as a suspect.

“Utilizing surveillance video and other investigative means, detectives have identified Dominic M. HENTON of Papillion, NE as a suspect in the assault on Senator Martha McSally that occurred on 11-08-2023 in Council Bluffs, IA,” the press release noted. “During the evening hours on 11-09-2023, an arrest warrant was issued charging HENTON with one count of Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse.”

In a post on social media, McSally wrote, “Dominic Henton, like I screamed at you yesterday (with profanity), you will not get away with this or try to harm and violate another woman. You picked the wrong target.”

The police press release noted that, “On 11-10-23 the Council Bluffs Police Department received information the suspect, Dominic M. Henton was taken into custody by the Omaha Police Department.”
