Looters Breaks Into Philly Gun Store. It Doesn’t Go Well for Them.

News & Politics

Riot-torn Philadelphia contributed two nominees to 2020’s Darwin Award list on Tuesday.

Early Tuesday morning, looters decided to raid a South Philly gun store. Amazingly, it turns out if you and your buddies plan to ‘jack a gun store, a person with a gun might be there to stop you.

Such was the case in South Philadelphia at Firing Line, Inc., early Tuesday morning after a night of riots by “grief-stricken” looters, arsonists and vandals.

NBC Philadelphia reports that the gun shop owner, a 67-year-old man, watched on his surveillance cameras as three or four burglars used bolt-cutters to break into his gate.

Looting a Gun Shop Has Its Perils

When they got into his shop, the owner introduced the bad guys to his M-4 Bushmaster rifle.

The store owner shot one of the bad guys in the head. He died at the store. The others got away, though, at least one of the other bad guys sought help for a wound at a Philadelphia hospital. They left behind a pistol that didn’t belong to the gun store owner.

NBC reports the shooting comes after days of riots and looting, but now the owner might be in trouble.

The South Philly neighborhood where this happened has seen members of the community protecting stores from looting that has spread across the city over the past several days.
Police have been getting thousands of more 911 calls in recent days, many for burglaries, looting, vandalism and large crowds, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. “We understand why.”

The city’s mayor and police commissioner said later Tuesday they supported the rights of individuals to protect themselves and their property. But Mayor Jim Kenney said he was “deeply troubled at the ease with which another life has been taken amidst this chaos.”

Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said officials don’t endorse “vigilante justice or taking the law into one’s own hands” and encouraged people to protect themselves through “safe, nonviolent” methods if possible. But, she said, “there are very clear laws that allow us to protect ourselves and our property from harm.”

Victim of Looters Taken in for Questioning

NBC reports the store owner was taken in for questioning.

Police said the other men would likely be charged with burglary, but it could be looting just because of the climate of the city right now.

No charges were filed as of midday Tuesday.

The mayor weighed in on the shooting. “Looting has consequences.”

Police confirm that 9-1-1 calls for looting and riots have been up by the thousands since the riots began.

No disrespect to the family of the looter, but, and let me be clear, he shouldn’t have been trying to steal guns to hurt other people.

With this case, it means that Philadelphia has contributed two nominees for the Darwin Awards in one day.

The other nominee blew himself up while trying to break into an ATM.

  1. Owner definitely did a public service. Imagine if these hoods had obtained a decent supply of guns and ammo from the store? Good job is all I can say.

    1. I worked the L.A. riots of 92 and the first place the looters broke into were the liquor stores, then the pawn shops (cause that is where the guns are in minority areas), then whatever took their fancy. One pawn shop lost about 1000 firearms, another, bigger, one 10,000. One of the latter’s missing firearms was used on me months later. Serial # intact, but one grip was melted by the fire the looters set when they had taken everything.

Would wager the stolen firearms are sold to Antifa. AR or AK for a case of whiskey.

    2. Just about time to say if you are looting you will be shot no questions asked innocent people are getting beaten and killed fuck these so called peaceful protestors these liberal mayors want there cities destroyed idiots

      1. Yea, those liberal mayors KNOW that the Government ( Tax-payer) will bail them out and Rebuild their Cities… they cannot Govern themselves.

    3. Hopefully the City doesn’t try and figure out a way to punish this store owner. Dem city mayors and DA’s hate anyone who stands up to looters, despite what their public stance may be. The establishment loves the mob since they are the source of their power. The mob supplies votes and intimidates anyone who would oppose their joint rule.

      1. The ultimate argument must be made that equality before the law BEGINS with our Natural Human Rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. That phrase simply means that every individual has the God-given Right to control his/her LIFE and destiny. Government officials who say store owners are not within their Rights to use deadly force to protect their lives and livelihoods against mob violence are in effect denying individuals the Right of Self-defense.

The Rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness do not – cannot – exist without the Right of Self-Defense. Self-defense as a concept allows the individual to live his/her own life without coercion, or being forced to do something against his/her self-interest. So, are we a free people or aren’t we?

      2. I would say the looters put the shop owner in “fear of his life”. To do that gives him a defense against a charge of homicide in most states.

  2. I don’t think your so called laws are working. That the law will protect me, fat chance you can’t protect the police WTF

  3. Utmost disrespect to rhe dead scumbags family, he got EXACTLY what he deserved.

As for the store owner, hell give that man a medal and the mayors position. Sounds like be knows how ro deal with it better than anyone “in charge”.

The cops cannot protect the citizens because as soon as they make an arrest they will be condemned for excessive use of force. Its up to the people to protect their lives and property.

For the most part, the American people are showing that they dont deserve rights or protection. Pretty much it comes down to the fact that this country needs The Purge to become reality.

  4. Since a death occurred during a crime. The CRIMINALS should be charged with murder, not just looting. Looting should be a greater crime than jus burglary. Looting happens because people are committing other crimes for the intent of stealing and maiming, burning and killing.

    1. That would be the case in Florida. The surviving criminal participants would all be charged with felony murder.

  5. Dear commissioner: Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said officials don’t endorse “vigilante justice or taking the law into one’s own hands” and encouraged people to protect themselves through “safe, nonviolent” methods if possible. But, she said, “there are very clear laws that allow us to protect ourselves and our property from harm.”

Yeah, about that whole idea of “Taking the law into their own hands” thingie.

WE, THE PEOPLE merely HIRE people to ENFORCE OUR LAWS.

They are not ‘police’ laws and WE, THE PEOPLE ARE the NEAREST POLICE BACKUP AVAILABLE!

WE, THE PEOPLE hire people like you to ‘supervise’ OUR EMPLOYEES so WE, THE PEOPLE can go about our daily lives.

WE, THE PEOPLE Created ‘governments’ as CARETAKERS of the Infrastructure and keeping OUR STREETS SAFE 24/7/365.

When it comes to WE, THE PEOPLE, being Required to ENFORCE OUR LAWS, it becomes APPARENT you are not ADEQUATELY PERFORMING your Duties to the REQUIRED LEVELS you said you were able to do.

I feel no obligation to pay for any continuation of your services, nor do I feel you have EARNED any post employment benefits.

  6. Give the peaceful protesters fair warning to get off the streets. then go in and round up the ones that are committing the crimes and terrorist acts, lock them up in so called concentration camps, use lethal force if necessary bring them to a quick trial and send them to a Out of Control Socialist Country Air drop them in , with or without a parachute.

  7. The gun store owner did exactly the right thing, ie; by keeping weapons and ammo out of the hands of looters!!!! The mayor needs to use his head for something other than a knot on his shoulders to keep his spinal cord from unraveling!!! if he hadn’t shot the one and hadn’t done anything to stop the assholes from taking any weapons, and someone had been killed by that weapon then he could have been tried as an acessory after the fact to the crime!!!!! He was also upholding Federal Law by protecting those firearms!!!

  8. If you want to engage in looting and possibly causing physical harm to other people, then you are risking your life. These morons didn’t attempt to break into a gun store to steal candy bars, they wanted guns. This gun owner had every RIGHT to defend his property. The death of Floyd didn’t give any of you the right to do whatever you want and cause destruction and harm to people who had nothing to do with what happened.

  9. Babymomma to the dead shooter says he was turning his life around. He had stopped robbing banks and convenience stores and had decided to move over to burglary instead. Said he was misunderstood by most people. On the weekends, he led the ⛪church choir, taught Sunday School and was a part-time elder and usher. When he wasn’t burglarizing, he was using his GED to get his degree in swimming ????pool maintenance.

  10. “grief-stricken” looters, arsonists and vandals?????
“grief stricken” my ass!!! These animals are just using this incident as yet another excuse to loot and burn! Get free tv’s. jewelry, booze and anything else not nailed down! They use the race card every chance they can to get away with their bad behavior and outrageous actions. ALL looters should be shot on sight and left to rot where they fall or let their families cart away the result of their bad parenting.

  11. I almost feel under qualified to make a comment, however I will say that I am greatly saddened by the actions I’ve witnessed in the news regarding the anarchists who are attempting to make our police ineffective in major cities across the land and disrupt our government officials as well. I applaud the gun store owner for the action taken to protect his property and find no fault in him. We have a right to protect our property and stores. I think instead of Closed due to Covid-19 signs there should be signs posted advising, This store is protected by firearms and will be used in any event to break in or loot this establishment. Be forewarned there will be no warning shots. Personally, as a concealed weapons carry permit holder, I’m locked and loaded should anyone attempt a break in at my place.

    1. Me too. God forbid they try. The county will have to pick up the parts scattered all over the place. Enough is enough.

  12. If the police will not protect you, you have run out of any other options but to protect yourself.

    1. When you live in a county the size of mine there is no way in hell the police can be every where at once. And if you are on the outer rim you are on your own.

  13. I am VERY disappointed at the gun shop owner. He should have TOTALLY unleashed the fire power of that weapon on the looters. Bullets are the ONLY thing that discourages animals. As soon as they realize nationwide that they WILL be shot and killed looting, the looting WILL stop. The sooner we kill some of the looters, the quicker they will get the message. I myself was a sniper in the Army. I DO NOT MISS and I SHOOT TO KILL. Be careful, be VERY careful of me, my home and my property. I WILL cost you your life!!!

  14. Welcome to “Killadelphia”, Americans. Now the STORE OWNER’S IN TROUBLE? Hyenas come into your home looking for blood. You gonna politely ask them if they want YOUR blood or your FAMILY’S ? You gonna offer them a discussion? No, THESE animals want EVERYTHING you have, and then to murder you with your own guns. Shoulda used a 12 Gauge. 00 Buck shot following the first deer slug. Could have gotten them ALL. This HAS to STOP, and there appears to be only one way: to make it too dangerous for them to enter MY place.

  15. Said gun store is a chain or franchise since I went to 1 in SFV, Burbank for shooting earlier this year Pre virus.
Firing Line is a Chain gun range, But Vegas has the Best Gun ranges & lots to rent 2.
    Good job for owner, Hoorah

  16. Now you have to remember, thanks to the idiots in black robes, the criminals have all the rights.
The victims just get shit in their faces.

It would be so nice if the victims of the rioters could sue BLM.
These Blatantly Low Mentally assholes have disgraced Mr. Floyds’ death. The officer-involved has been arrested.
However, that is not good enough for them. They want to cause as much damage as they can and steel all they want.

The store owner did a very great job and most likely saved a lot of lives. I would bet he gets sued by the dead asshole’s family.

  17. Sorry they broke in with a gun so good riddance to the trash. Do not break and and try to steal what is not yours and dont get shot. And Sorry the law protecting criminals and wanting to punish the people protecting their property laws need to be changed.

  18. Did not get to be the story why George Floyd, was being held by the police. What the heck was he doing to be arrested. Any body got the story?

  19. How dare this gun shop owner protect his life, property and livelihood from marauding gangs of murderous thugs. I bet he’s one of them veteran guys.
