News camera catches car accident during report about one of the ‘most dangerous’ traffic areas in Los Angeles

Video of a news reporter covering one of the most dangerous traffic areas of Los Angeles went viral on Friday after news cameras captured a car accident during his report.

The car accident occurred while KTLA-TV reporter Gene Kang narrated from the intersection of Hoover street and 84th street, which officials said was one of the most dangerous traffic areas in Los Angeles.

The camera captured a car racing into an intersection and slamming into another car before spinning wildly almost out of control. That car then races away from the scene.

Kang said that the news crew called the police and tried to help the victims. He added that police were able to obtain the license plate from the car that sped away.

The video of the accident was initially posted to Twitter by Christina Pascucci, also with KTLA. That video garnered over 1.4 million views on social media.

The full report of the accident published on the KTLA YouTube channel also received half a million views.

Kang was at the intersection in response to a tragic hit-and-run that took the life of 42-year-old Jemmy Chavarria on Feb. 26. Officials said Chavarria courageously pushed his wife and their child out of harm’s way before he was struck by a car going at a very high rate of speed.

“I forgive you but you have to pay for what you did,” said Angelica Chavarria, the wife of the victim. “I don’t want you to do this again, for another family to feel this pain.”

Officials said there was a $50,000 reward for any information that would lead to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the driver responsible for the fatal incident.
