Would-be robber attempts stickup of Chicago auto parts store, manager shoots him dead: Police

An apparent good guy with a gun turned the tables on an armed robber. A Chicago store manager shot dead a would-be robber who was armed.

The would-be robber entered the O’Reilly Auto Parts store in the Chicago neighborhood of Calumet Heights on Saturday. The man, said to be aged between 30 and 40 years old, flashed a firearm and demanded the manager hand over money from the store’s cash register, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The store manager, who police said is a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) cardholder, shot the would-be robber to thwart the reported crime.

The suspect was rushed to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition, but he later died from his injuries, according to police.

Video footage from WFLD shows several bullet holes in the O’Reilly Auto Parts store. Footage also shows a gun near the entrance of the store.

Police have yet to identify the deceased suspect.

Detectives are investigating the shooting.

No charges have been filed against the store owner, who seemingly acted in self-defense.

  1. Now the problem of gun deaths is being handled correctly. Its not the guns its the criminals. Banning guns won’t stop the problem. Having a legally armed public will cure the gun death problem.
