Tech expert and Modev founder Pete Erickson told Fox’s Good Day DC” on Thursday that artificial intelligence should be regulated as soon as possible. 
Erickson joined the show to discuss the recent panic over the dystopian capabilities of artificial intelligence, but instead used it as a pivot point to push more government control over AI. He said immediate regulation is needed to “make sure that our technologies are safe for all users and that the information we are getting out of them is accurate and not ‘mis’ or ‘dis’ information.” So the answer to the dangers of AI is to give the government enormous power over its information flows? Did Erickson just memory-hole the Orwellian Disinformation Governance Board that President Joe Biden attempted to institutionalize last year targeting American speech?
Interestingly, Modev’s partners include a number of leftist, censorship-obsessed Big Tech giants including Apple, Facebook and Amazon. The Twitter Files unearthed the enormous backdoor network that government entities utilized with Big Tech executives to encourage censorship, so for Erickson to push for government involvement in controlling AI is nothing short of terrifying.
But Erickson is not the only tech personality to be clamoring for more government control over technology..
For example, MRC Free Speech America reported in March that former Google CEO Eric Schmidt claimed that AI should not be used anonymously. “You need to know who the users are, even if you don’t tell the end user who they are, there needs to be some notion of who they are and where they came from,” Schmidt told the House Oversight Committee.
“True anonymity hidden behind a paywall would allow nation-state attacks.” Reclaim the Net slammed Schmidt’s proposal, calling it a “blow to individual privacy.”The publication also emphasized Schmidt’s significant influence and investment in AI over the years. “During his time as head of the NSCAI, Schmidt and firms linked to him made over 50 investments in AI companies and multiple investments into national security companies that sell machine learning technologies to the government.” It’s worth noting that Schmidt funded the technology firm The Groundwork, the largest vendor of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
