Attacker allegedly kicks 84-year-old woman out of bus before spitting at victim lying flat on sidewalk; passerby pretends to help but swipes her purse, witness says

A female allegedly kicked an 84-year-old woman out of a bus in Los Angeles last week before spitting at the elderly grandmother while she was lying flat on a sidewalk.

What’s more, a witness said a passerby pretended to help the victim but swiped her pocketbook instead.

What are the details?

Fox News said the attack took place Tuesday in the University Park neighborhood in south L.A. Police added to KTTV-TV that a surveillance camera captured it all near the bus stop in the 2400 block of Vermont Avenue.

An unnamed witness told KTTV “the assailant was holding on to the rails on top of the bus and full force kicked the woman off the bus. So not only did she hit the [sidewalk], she was kicked violently.”

The woman suffered suffered serious injuries in the attack, the station said. Fox News said the security camera captured images of her flying out of the bus, landing on her back, and hitting her head on the sidewalk.

“She just smacked right into the concrete,” a witness named Jonathan — the owner of a store near the spot of the attack — told KTTV.

The store owner also told the station that the attacker spat at the woman while she was lying flat on her back on the sidewalk.

Jonathan also noted to KTTV that a man who was walking by pretended to try to help the victim but instead “swiped her pocketbook.” He added to the station that “luckily … two younger locals … jumped off the bus and took the purse back …”

“It’s sickening,” a family member of the victim told KTTV. “This action was very malicious and intentional, and there’s nothing right about this act.”

Her family added to the station that the grandmother only remembers parts of the incident and is in a lot of pain. KTTV also said in its Friday story that the victim was still listed in critical condition.

LAPD investigators have not released the suspect’s name, the station said, but added that she was arrested the same day and is known to frequent the area.

“These days it’s crazy,” Jonathan added to KTTV. “You just don’t know where you’re going to be safe any more.”
