Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed U.S. Attorney David Weiss as special counsel in the case against Hunter Biden, and Glenn Beck isn’t so sure this will move the case in the right direction.
“Special counsel is not supposed to be the guy who’s already been doing the investigation in the government. It’s a special counsel — somebody that comes from outside the government and then starts looking at what all of the other people have collected,” Glenn says.
Glenn notes that the special counsel is supposed to be outside of the government, but because Weiss is outside of the federal government, they’re getting away with it.
Stu Burguiere is confused by the appointment as well, saying he’s been given the impression this was a “get out of jail free” card for Hunter, but isn’t so sure it is.
“The only reason we really have the impression it was a ‘get out of jail free’ card for everything is Hunter Biden’s attorneys,” Stu says, adding, “which of course Hunter Biden’s attorneys are going to say that.”
“So are you saying maybe David Weiss isn’t so bad?” Glenn asks Stu.
Stu isn’t sure, but he believes it’s possible that maybe Weiss “didn’t actually cut this sweetheart deal. He just gave him the deal, which I think he could still describe as sweetheart on just these two pieces of the investigation.”
Stu is referring to Hunter’s gun charges and tax fraud.
“I think you can describe that as a sweetheart deal on just those two things, but it’s a ridiculous deal if it encompasses everything,” he adds.
While unsure whether Weiss is making things easier on Hunter, Glenn is still concerned about whether his appointment violates the U.S. Code. “I can’t get past this,” Glenn says.
“It says right in the code, ‘Shall be from outside the United States government,’” Glenn says. “He’s a federal attorney. He’s the U.S. attorney, and he was appointed by the U.S. government.”
“There’s something weird here,” Stu says, “is I guess where I keep landing on this.”
