The Pentagon announced Thursday the launch of a new website that will act as a “one-stop shop” for declassified photographs, videos, and reports of unidentified flying objects.
Last year, the Department of Defense founded the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office to “minimize technical and intelligence surprises” by investigating and resolving reported cases of unidentified anomalous phenomena. On Thursday, the Pentagon announced the launch of the government office’s website, aaro.mil.
According to a DOD press release, AARO’s website will provide photographs and videos of declassified resolved cases, reporting trends, frequently asked questions, and other resources.
It will also allow current and former government employees, service members, and contractors to report sightings directly to the AARO. The ability to report on the website is not currently active but is coming soon.
“As we move ahead into the future, there will be a subsequent update to that site that will allow DOD service members or civilians to provide reports via a private and secure means,” Ryder continued. “AARO is focused on the facts. Taking in information, reviewing the facts and then, when possible, declassifying that information and making it available.”
The DOD does not currently have plans to allow private civilians to submit reports through the website.
Over the past 27 years, there have been over 800 sightings reported to the DOD. Earlier this year, the Pentagon stated that only 2%-5% of those sightings were “possibly really anomalous.”
Since Thursday’s announcement, the AARO website is up and running, featuring several UAP videos of unidentified flying objects.
During a Thursday news conference, DOD spokesperson Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder noted that the agency is “committed to transparency with the American people on AARO’s work on UAPs.”
“The department is committed to transparency with the American people on AARO’s work on UAP. This website will serve as a one-stop shop for all publicly available information related to AARO and UAP, and AARO will regularly update the website with its most recent activities and findings as new information is cleared for public release,” the DOD’s press release read.
AARO Director Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick stated, “Our team of experts is leading the U.S. government’s efforts to address Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) using a rigorous scientific framework and a data-driven approach. Since its establishment in July 2022, AARO has taken important steps to improve data collection, standardize reporting requirements, and mitigate the potential threats to safety and security posed by UAP. We look forward to using this site to regularly update the public about AARO’s work and findings, and to provide a mechanism for UAP reporting.”
