Nikki Haley says that New Hampshire GOP presidential primary voters ‘correct’ the outcome of the Iowa caucus

The first two GOP presidential nominating contests of the 2024 election cycle will take place in Iowa and New Hampshire later this month, but Republican presidential primary candidate Nikki Haley recently suggested that New Hampshire will “correct it” after Iowa kicks the process off.

“You know Iowa starts it. You know that you correct it,” Haley said, eliciting laughter and applause from the crowd as she campaigned in New Hampshire. The former South Carolina governor then added that “South Carolina brings it home. That’s what we do.”

In 2016, Sen. Ted Cruz won in Iowa, while Donald Trump, who eventually went on to win the 2016 GOP presidential nod, won in New Hampshire.

While New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, a Republican, has endorsed Haley for president, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis described Haley’s comment about New Hampshire making a correction after Iowa as “disrespectful to Iowa voters.”

During her campaign event, Haley was asked how she would get rid of illegal immigrants present in the country. Haley responded by noting that they would need to be deported.

During remarks in 2015, then-South Carolina Gov. Haley spoke against calling illegal immigrants “criminals.”

“We don’t need to be disrespectful. We don’t need to talk about them as criminals. They’re not. They’re families that want a better life and they’re desperate to get here,” she said at the time.

Haley went on to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations during a portion of President Donald Trump’s White House tenure.

Polling indicates that Trump has a wide lead over the rest of the GOP presidential primary field.
