Peter Doocy leaves John Kirby dazed and confused with simple question about razor wire dispute: ‘So now what?’

White House spokesman John Kirby appeared stunned on Tuesday when Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy asked him basic questions about the border crisis.

On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision that Border Patrol officers may cut through razor wire that Texas installed on the southern border to mitigate illegal immigration. The Biden administration celebrated the decision, despite acknowledging that the barrier worked.

At the press briefing on Tuesday, Doocy wasted no time trying to understand why the Biden administration is celebrating the decision so openly.

“Why are you guys making it easier for people to enter the country illegally?” Doocy asked.

Kirby appeared confused at the question, and he claimed the administration is not making it easier for migrants to enter illegally. Doocy then clarified why he asked the question: The Biden administration, by suing Texas over the razor wire, was signaling that it didn’t want the barrier on the border. Kirby, on the other hand, said the lawsuit was about helping Border Patrol do their jobs.

“But keep going,” Kirby snarked.

“Well, you won in court. So now what?” Doocy followed up.

That simple question left Kirby unable to speak for several seconds. He was visibly confused by the question and clearly didn’t have a response prepared. Doocy eventually broke the awkward silence by giving Kirby an easier question.

“The Border Patrol union president is saying the Supreme Court’s decision is going to ‘undoubtedly encourage more illegal immigration.’ Do you guys know better than the Border Patrol union?” Doocy followed up.

Kirby, however, could only respond by repeating the Biden administration’s talking point: The razor wire prevented Border Patrol officers from doing their jobs. But the administration has not offered evidence to prove this claim.

Later in the briefing, Doocy asked Kirby yet another easy question, “Does razor wire work?” But Kirby refused to answer it, and he instead blamed Republicans for the ongoing inability of the Biden administration to stymie the migrant crisis.
