President Joe Biden claims the state of the union is ‘strong and getting stronger’

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, President Joe Biden, who is hoping to win a second term in office, delivered the State of the Union address on Thursday night, claiming that the state of the union is “strong and getting stronger.”

Not long after beginning his remarks, Biden began advocating for the U.S. to continue supporting Ukraine. He said that if the U.S. supplies Ukraine with weapons, the Eastern European nation can stop Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Biden attempted to refer to Laken Riley, a 22-year-old woman who was killed last month, though the president seemed to botch her first name and call her “Lincoln” rather than Laken. “Lincoln Riley, an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal,” Biden said. He noted that his heart went out to Riley’s parents. “Having lost children myself, I understand.”

The president called for increasing the federal minimum wage. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, “The federal minimum wage for covered nonexempt employees is $7.25 per hour.”

During Biden’s speech, former President Donald Trump shared his thoughts on Truth Social, writing in one post, “He looks so angry when he’s talking, which is a trait of people who know they are ‘losing it.’ The anger and shouting is not helpful to bringing our Country back together!” In another post, Trump exclaimed, “He is so angry and crazy!”

“That was by far the most disastrous state of the union address I’ve ever witnessed — in my 52 years on this planet,” GOP Sen. Mike Lee of Utah tweeted.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ press secretary, Jeremy Redfern, wrote in a tweet, “Easy to criticize the other side of the aisle as they cheer Biden’s often-incoherent SOTU. But let’s not forget that the House Republican majority continues to fund his admin.”
