J.K. Rowling triggers backlash and hatred with one tweet about transgender misogyny

News & Politics

“Harry Potter” creator J.K. Rowling faced a wave of hatred and anger from transgender activists and supporters after she tweeted about the misogyny involved in the attempt to redefine women.

Rowling has been a target for the transgender lobby since she began questioning whether some policies gave preferential treatment to transgender people while putting women at risk.

On Wednesday, she earned their ire again after tweeting about the sensitive issue.

“Men defining what a woman is, what women should and shouldn’t fear, what women should and shouldn’t say, what rights women should be fine with giving up and, of course, what constitutes ‘real’ misogyny: get a bloody mirror,” Rowling tweeted.

“That’s real misogyny, looking right back at you,” she concluded.

While the celebrated author didn’t use the word “transgender” in her tweet, many on the left assumed her meaning and excoriated her on social media.

“But you’re perfectly fine with trying to eradicate trans women from obtaining necessary care and slate things like gender-affirming care. You DON’T speak for trans people, yet you constantly do. Be prepared to face scrutiny for your words and actions. ENOUGH,” responded LGBTQ journalist Joseph Ali.

When you are aligning yourself with far right wing white nationalists, and using your platform to demonize a group of people who were already arguably the most misunderstood and hated group of people…You might need to reevaluate your life. It is truly evil what you’re doing,” replied another critic.

“Why do you care so much how someone else defines themselves? You literally ruined your entire legacy one I grew up with and shared with my children, before finding out you’re such a bigot. Let people live their lives. I’m begging you to stop. FULL STOP,” said another detractor.

“Real misogyny is helping fascists rise and genociding trans people cause you feel like bored unfulfilled in your life isn’t feminism,” read another critical tweet.

Others applauded Rowling for standing up in defense of women and their security.
