During a campaign event yesterday at the University of Nevada, Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke cast his support for unlimited abortion rights in terms of protecting “women’s health,” claiming that Planned Parenthood — the nation’s largest abortion provider — saves lives.

A university student who described herself as a supporter of Planned Parenthood told O’Rourke that she is “deeply concerned about the lies that are being spread about abortion later in pregnancy.” She asked him how, if elected, he will “protect a woman’s right to access safe and legal abortion.”

“I’ll try to find that common ground,” O’Rourke replied, adding that when he campaigned against Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas) in the 2018 midterms, he went to red counties and shared “the same message” about “a woman’s right to make her own decisions about her own body.”

He also claimed that family planning clinics in Texas have been shut down, making it hard for women to get “any kind of health care at all, including access to a legal, safe abortion.”

“No one wants to see people die in the wealthiest and most powerful country on the face of the planet for lack of care,” he added. “Planned Parenthood, to be specific, in Texas is saving the lives of our fellow women, and it is a life and death matter in this country.”

Carefully ignored by the failed Senate candidate, of course, is the fact that Planned Parenthood facilities end the lives of more than 330,000 unborn human beings each year, one-third of the estimated annual abortions in the U.S. He also said recently that, had he been in the Senate, he would’ve voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would’ve required doctors to provide the same medical care to infants born alive after attempted abortions that they’d provide to any other newborn infant at the same gestational age.
