The city of St. Louis and St. Louis County are suing to block a new Missouri law that bars local authorities from enforcing federal gun laws, in a lawsuit filed in Cole County Circuit Court on Monday.

Governor Mike Parson signed the law earlier this month, implementing a penalty of up to $50,000 on any law-enforcement officer who knowingly enforces federal gun laws. Republicans have praised the legislation as a potential shield if the Biden administration attempts to expand gun-control measures, and several other states have enacted similar legislation.

St. Louis County executive Sam Page and St. Louis mayor Tishaura Jones, both Democrats, countered that the law could hinder efforts to curb gun violence.

“This new law is like the state holding out a sign that says, ‘Come Commit Gun Violence Here,’” Page said in a statement after the suit was filed.

The Justice Department warned Missouri officials that the state could not ignore federal gun statues, in a letter obtained by the Associated Press last week. Parsons and Missouri attorney general Eric Schmitt responded that the law “is about protecting law-abiding Missourians against government overreach and unconstitutional federal mandates.”

The state will “reject any attempt by the federal government to circumvent the fundamental right Missourians have to keep and bear arms to protect themselves and their property,” Parsons and Schmitt wrote in a joint letter to the DOJ.

  1. Funny how those on the left have no problem with Red states ignoring federal immigration law and allowing sanctuary cities and states with regards to illegal immigration, but complain when a law is written that safeguards our constitutionally protected 2nd Amendment rights.
If the city of St. Louis would fill the over 100 police vacancies and actually arrest, convict, and jail criminals crime could be wiped out. Instead they have a racist prosecuting attorney who allows offenders off with a slap on the wrist but prosecute those that rightfully protect their lives and their property like the McCloskeys.

  2. St. Louis, like all – ALL – of our demoncratic-run cities, is a hotbed of crime and violence. East St. Louis, (IL), is even worse! These communist-leaning cities are systematically ruining our once-great country, and no one in power gives a damn!

  3. Not enforcing illegal 2nd amendment gun laws is an open invitation to criminals but no bail turn them lose into the streets with no penalty for looting and beating people up isn’t?

  4. I’ve yet to see any current law or proposed federal law that would actually curb any type of crime at all. So their argument that this law would hinder their attempts to curb gun violence is full of crap. The democrat party doesn’t care about gun violence what they want is to disarm those who would rise up against them when they go too far with their Marxist crap. Here in Arizona we have similar laws and I applaud them!

  5. I was reading an article some people are trying to push through a policy that when you buy a home, real estate agents will have a map showing a 50 mile area of where all the gun owners live, so then you can avoid buying a house in those areas. But if criminals get ahold of that map, don’t you think they will avoid robbing the areas with high gun ownership, and go after the the peace loving democrats homes?? The person that wrote the article said that the files of gun ownership on the state and federal level are highly restricted and would never become available to real estate agents….but if they did, I would want to move there, as they say, there is safety in numbers.

  6. The “Injustice” department…

They spent the last 5 years is a constant state of lying…

There is NO Justice from liars…

  7. I’m no legal beagle, but I do read from time to time about lawsuits dismissed for lack of “standing.” Seems to me that St. Louis has no standing where federal laws are concerned.
