Liberal Fact-Checker Labels Satire Piece ‘Not True’

News & Politics

Lead Stories, a liberal fact-checker site, labeled a satire article from The Babylon Bee as “Not True.”

The fact-check on the Facebook post said the article had “false information” and that “independent fact-checkers say the information has no basis in fact.”

The article mockingly accused CNN of “praising” the Taliban for wearing masks during its Afghanistan takeover.

Ron Coleman, a legal commentator on First Amendment issues, applauded The Bee for being fact-checked once again.

“You’ve done it again, ⁦@TheBabylonBee⁩,” he tweeted.

The Babylon Bee has been subjected to multiple fact-checks for its satire.

Earlier in the year, The New York Times said The Babylon Bee “trafficked in misinformation’” disguised as satire after The Bee posted an article making fun of Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI).

Notably, Lead Stories is no stranger to left-wing bias. A Newsbusters study found that Lead Stories published 296 fact-checks between January 1, 2020, and March 9, 2020. “Out of those, 55 entries were from right-leaning social media users and news outlets. Only 12 were from left-leaning social media users and news outlets.”
