A Florida woman suffered a sexual assault after she accidentally entered a vehicle she thought was her Uber ride.
On Saturday evening, an unidentified woman called for an Uber in St. Petersburg, Florida, and soon afterward climbed into a blue Ford Explorer. However, the Ford Explorer was not the car that was supposed to pick her up, and it soon began taking the woman the wrong way. According to an affidavit, the woman “wasn’t paying attention to the direction the vehicle was travelling” and didn’t realize that the app noted that she was in the wrong car. The affidavit also stated that the woman “had been drinking.”
At some point, the driver of the Ford Explorer, later alleged to be 32-year-old Kenneth Levelle Streeter, parked the car behind an apartment complex. He then entered the back seat of the vehicle and began “kissing” the woman’s body. The woman refused his advances and attempted to escape, but Streeter “forcibly pulled her back into the vehicle” and closed the door, police said. In so doing, Streeter supposedly tore the woman’s shirt and managed to place his hands down her pants, where he touched her genitals.
At that point, the victim pulled out a pocket knife and used it to keep the suspect at bay. She then exited the vehicle and ran away. “This is all captured on video,” the police statement claimed. In their investigation, police determined that the Ford Explorer had been registered to Streeter’s lover, who “positively identified” Streeter as the suspect.
Streeter was arrested and charged with felony kidnapping and attempted sexual battery. He is currently being held in the Pinellas County jail on $200,000 bond. A man with the same name and birthdate was also arrested in Pinellas County twice in five days back in 2014, mostly for drug-related charges.
According to current jail records, Streeter is also being held on behalf of ICE. Reports indicate that he is a native of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The office of Streeter’s public defender released a statement about his arrest. “Our office was just appointed to represent Mr. Streeter earlier today,” an email from the office in Florida’s sixth judicial circuit told Law&Crime. “Going forward, we will speak with our client and begin to investigate the allegations against him.”
