Read how White House hopefuls responded when ‘Glenn TV’ asked about the UN and NATO

With the 2024 presidential election about one year away, some White House hopefuls supplied “Glenn TV” with written responses to several questions, some of which included questions about the United Nations and NATO.

Candidates were asked why America should keep supporting the U.N. and whether they would commit to defunding the organization.

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who served as U.S. ambassador to the U.N. during a portion of former President Donald Trump’s White House tenure, did not say whether she would commit to defunding the globalist body.

“I know what it’s like to fight the UN because I did it every day as ambassador,” Haley stated. “I successfully pushed for the United States to get out of the falsely-named UN Human Rights Council. I successfully pushed to cut the UN budget, and we saved a billion dollars as a result. I fought the DC establishment and won in pushing to stop American funding for UNRWA, a corrupt UN agency that spreads hate against Israel.”

Author and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy called it “a pathetic organization” and said that he is “reevaluating America’s continued involvement in this morally compromised globalist enterprise.”

Democrat-turned-independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. flatly rejected the idea of committing to defunding the U.N. and instead said that the organization should be reformed.

“No. No organization is monolithic. The U.N. is as corrupt as many other institutions, including those within our own country. But most of its bureaucrats are decent human beings who want to do good in the world. So the issue is not defunding, but rather reforming the U.N. Its corruption reflects our own,” Kennedy communicated. “The same corporate and financial forces that have hijacked Congress, the executive, and our federal agencies have also corrupted the U.N. Let’s start cleaning house at home. Then we will have the moral high ground from which to reform the United Nations.”

The candidates were asked whether there is a strategic reason for America to remain in NATO, and if not, whether they would support the nation withdrawing from the alliance.

Haley hailed NATO as “a 75-year success story.”

“In the half century before NATO existed, Germany twice went to war with its European neighbors, pulling America into two world wars,” Haley said. “In the 75 years since, no NATO member has gone to war with another, and the Soviet Union (now Russia) has never attacked a NATO member country. Putin and his proxies have attacked three non-NATO countries in the region. So NATO has been a success. However, America has borne a disproportionate funding burden for NATO. We must make sure every NATO country pays its appropriate share, and we have to stiffen their spines when it comes to confronting our adversaries.”

Ramaswamy indicated that he is “investigating” the matter.

“We need to understand the costs and benefits of American involvement in NATO. For decades, NATO allies have treated Uncle Sam as Uncle Sucker. America has far outspent our allies on defense – we have created the world’s greatest defense umbrella, and they have taken advantage of it. Our NATO allies must meet their obligations for defense spending. As President, I refuse to allow American taxpayers to go deeper into debt so that Europeans can rip us off,” Ramaswamy noted.

Kennedy advocated for disbanding NATO.

“NATO is a relic of the Cold War and has become an instrument of imperialism. Its paranoid provocations of Russia have created that country as the very enemy it fears,” Kennedy declared. “It is time to undo that way of thinking and disband NATO in an orderly fashion concomitant with concessions from Russia in the Ukraine and other places.”
