Trump Declares War on McConnell in Blistering Statement, Urges GOP to Abandon Him

Former President Trump criticized Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) in a statement released on Tuesday, after McConnell labeled Trump “practically and morally responsible” for the January 6 riot at the Capitol.

While he voted to acquit Trump of the charge of “incitement of insurrection” during his impeachment trial, McConnell criticized the former president’s conduct leading up to the riots. A mob of Trump supporters breached the Capitol on January 6 after attending a speech by the former president, forcing lawmakers to evacuate the building and interrupting the certification of the Electoral College results.

Three days after McConnell’s statements, Trump responded by blasting the top Senate Republican.

“Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again,” Trump said.

The former president blamed the losses of Republican senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler in Georgia on McConnell’s refusal to back $2,000 stimulus checks during coronavirus relief negotiations in December. Trump also said McConnell has “no credibility on China because of his family’s substantial Chinese business holdings,” in an apparent reference to the family of Elaine Chao, Trump’s former transportation secretary and McConnell’s wife.

Additionally, while McConnell has indicated he will back primary candidates in the 2022 midterms based on “electability,” Trump threatened to “back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our policy of America First.”

“The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political ‘leaders’ like Sen. Mitch McConnell at its helm,” Trump said.

The statement is the latest round in an emerging contest for influence in the Republican Party following Trump’s defeat in the November elections. Looking to the 2022 midterms, Senator Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.), a staunch Trump ally, has indicated he would support the former president’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump if she decides to run for the Senate in North Carolina. Meanwhile, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley has launched a PAC to support Republican candidates in the midterms, ahead of a potential run for the presidency in 2024.

  1. The most important now is cleaning the voting systems. Mail voting could be used only in case of confirmed illness, business trips abroad etc. ID and checking with registration must be required. No programable computers in counting of votes can be allowed. Instead bank type teller counting machines (for bills – just adding) should be used. Representative of both parties should sit by the voting officials, and they both should signed out the result. Without that no one can trust the present system. Oligarch’s (Zuckerberg $400 M400) monies for election should be eliminated, now they can corrupt (bribe) anyone. This should be a goal instead of internal fight of GOP. Voters support means not much if results can faked, remember Stalin principle, “ it is not important who votes but who counts the votes”.

    1. THAT is one of the more (if not THE most) lame, shallow and uninformed analysis of the post-election influence Trump STILL has with the public I have ever heard. Mercifully for the rest of us, you were economical in your wording. If he was NOT still influential, why is the MSM still vilifying him every chance they get? Their treatment of the memory of Rush Limbaugh on this, the day of his death, is demonstrative of the contempt they hold for ANY Conservative, but especially Trump who is and shall remain the most effective President of my lifetime. My political awareness goes back to Harry Truman!!

  2. If trump would of did what the delusional democrats did to win , the world would stop . The crying would of been heard in the havens . Even after showing proof and 7 different people getting arrested for voters fraud they still won’t recheck the count . We all know why tho . If they did , they lose and they knew it . As of today one can’t trust either party or the voting system . My vote was stolen from me in Pa because of the corrupt computers used to fix the election for the equaly corrupt delusional democrats . Trump won but by the corruption of the delusional democrats they put a moron in the office . Yes they let him play with the big rubber Stamps on the desk , but that’s it . Even they know they can’t let this idiot make any real decisions about the country , their not that stupid or foolish . Like trump said the deplorable republicans are done with the members running the show right now . If they ever hope to regain any kind of power they better wake up and fix things like president trump tryed to . They could make a real stand with his help .

  3. They got Biden in for a couple months, have him declared incompetent,(duh), and then Kamala assumes the presidency with Pelosi as VP- what in the hell are we in for–they haven’t seen insurrection yet!

  4. Deep State controls the voting machines and the vote counters. Deep State has their people from both parties in practically every single one of their desired positions specifically due to their control of the voting machines and the vote counters, and the people aren’t doing anything about it. Why in the world do you think they would ever go back to fair elections?
