Elon Musk Slams U.S. Declining Birth Rate

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Americans need to have more kids.

Musk tweeted a chart from the Wall Street Journal that illustrated the decline of birth rates in the United States over the past 50 years.

“USA birth rate has been below min sustainable levels for ~50 years,” he tweeted

He added that contrary to “popular belief,” rich people don’t have as many children as one might think.

“Contrary to what many think, the richer someone is, the fewer kids they have,” he tweeted. “I am a rare exception. Most people I know have zero or one kid.”

Musk has seven living children. His first son, Nevada, passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) at just ten weeks old.

Musk previously expressed concern that the human population on Earth was so low that colonization on Mars was not possible.

“We should be much more worried about population collapse,” he tweeted in January. “UN projections are utter nonsense. Just multiply last year’s births by life expectancy. Given downward trend in birth rate, that is best case unless reversed. If there aren’t enough people for Earth, then there definitely won’t be enough for Mars.”
