Country star Morgan Wallen suspends tour because of vocal cord ‘trauma’

News & Politics

A popular country music star, up for several Academy of Country Music Awards, has suspended his current concert tour for six weeks after he “reinjured” his vocal cords.

On Tuesday, Morgan Wallen, 29, took to Instagram to share the “bad news” with his fans. According to Wallen, medical professionals at the Vanderbilt Voice Center “scoped” him out and determined that he has “reinjured” his vocal cords, causing “vocal fold trauma.”

Country music audiences likely are not surprised that Wallen has had to cancel so many upcoming tour dates. On April 23, Wallen bowed out of a show in Oxford, Mississippi, just minutes before he was scheduled to take the stage, claiming that he had lost his voice. He then rested his voice for 10 days, but that time proved inadequate for his recovery. After performing three concerts in Florida, Wallen said his voice and throat felt “terrible” and indicated that the torn muscle in his back he suffered earlier this year had continued to hamper his mobility.

However, just as he croons in his smash hit “Last Night,” Wallen still believes his One Night at a Time World Tour “ain’t over yet” and that he can soon return to the stage better than ever. “If I do this the right way, I’ll get back to 100%,” Wallen assured viewers. He claimed that his staff is working to reschedule all missed tour stops, including the canceled Mississippi show, and to make things “right” with his disappointed fans.

In the meantime, Wallen said he has been given strict orders to rest his voice or risk permanent damage. He is not even supposed to talk, though he made an exception for the two-minute Instagram video. He will not be able to perform as scheduled at the upcoming ACMAs, where he is currently up for Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Artist-Songwriter of the Year. He hopes to return to his tour schedule by June 22, when he is slated to perform at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

“For the longevity of my career, this is just a choice I had to make,” Wallen stated.
